- No additives or preservatives.
- Adds a delicious outer crust.
🧂 Recipe Ingredients
To make Texas Roadhouse seasoning, you only need basic ingredients you likely have in your kitchen.
Ingredient Notes
- Brown sugar adds a sweet and caramelized crust when cooked. You can also use raw sugar, maple sugar, or coconut sugar.
- Kosher salt helps to tenderize the meat. You can also use coarse salt or sea salt.
- Black pepper. Fresh ground black pepper is best, but fine ground pepper also works.
- Smoked paprika adds a touch of smoky flavor. If you don't have smoked paprika, you can make your own by combining 2 parts of regular paprika with 1 part of ground cumin. You can also use regular paprika.
- Garlic powder. Granulated garlic or garlic flakes can be used as substitutes.
- Onion powder. Granulated onion or onion flakes work just as well.
- Chili powder. I love ancho chili powder or chipotle chili powder, but regular chili powder works too!
- Turmeric. This is my secret ingredient, and it adds the best flavor!

🥣 How To Make Texas Roadhouse Steak Seasoning Recipe
Step-By-Step Instructions
This recipe makes 2-½ tablespoons, which is enough steak seasoning for 3-4 large steaks. Double or triple the recipe as needed.
- Add brown sugar, salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and turmeric to a small bowl.
- Stir the mixture until evenly combined. You can also pour seasonings into a small glass jar, put the lid on, and give it a good shake until mixed.
- Pat the steaks dry with a paper towel to remove moisture. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the steaks and rub it all over with your hands. This gives the rub something to stick to.
- Generously sprinkle the copycat Texas Roadhouse Seasoning over the steaks. Gently press the rub into the meat with your hands. For maximum flavor, coat the sides of the steaks as well. Let the steaks sit at room temperature while you preheat your grill.
You can also pour the seasoning into a large zip-top bag and add the steaks. Give the bag a good shake until the steaks are evenly coated.
- Season the steaks and cook them using your preferred recipe. Check out How To Cook A Reverse-Seared Steak On A Traeger or Ultimate Smoked Steak Recipe for how to smoke and reverse-sear a steak. The cooking times may vary depending on the thickness, type of steak, and preferred level of doneness. Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer.
- Once you cook the steaks to your liking, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes. For extra flavor, add a pat of butter to each steak.
- If you have any leftover seasoning mixture, store it in a zip-top bag or a mason jar for up to 2 months.
- Serve your steaks with a side of smooth and creamy Homemade Mashed Potatoes, Smoked Corn on the Cob, and Smoked Shrimp.
💭 Expert Tips
- Combine the spices evenly.
- Transfer the seasoning to an empty spice jar with a shaker-type top for easy application.
- Use fresh spices for the best flavor.
- Let the seasoning sit on the steak for 30 minutes before cooking for the best flavor.
🌡️ Storage Tips
Leftover steak rub can be stored in an airtight container or spice jar in a cool, dry place for up to 2 months, in the fridge for 6 months, or in the freezer for up to a year.
