After taking a short hiatus from writing I am back with some of my learnings from the last few months. I will send out a newsletter whenever I can so keep an eye on your inboxes!
This issue will talk about how you can find witch doctors mentors for your job search in 2024 🚀
In the fast-paced and competitive job market of 2024, landing your dream job requires more than just a polished resume and impressive credentials. In fact, it may require a WITCH DOCTER 🪄.
I’m just kidding….or AM I? Keep reading to find out.
In our newsletters, we have fun! (at least I do!), talk about success tips, who to network with, what events you could attend and how to take care of that big beautiful brain of yours.
Lots to talk about this week, so let’s get to it!
I joined a podcast this year! It is called ‘Cambrian Explosion’ because we talk about explosive insights. In one of our recent episodes, we spoke about mental health in Canada from an immigrant perspective.
At one point in the conversation, we brought up that Pakistan had witch doctors people speak with when they had issues. Wouldn’t it be great to have a dedicated person in your community that has magic at their fingertips? Their job is to make sure you are set up for success AND if there is something wrong they HAVE to brew up a solution.
…After all the community's reputation would be at stake.
I hope the meme above got you to chuckle just a tiny bit AND made you think. You may be having trouble with getting interviews and not know what the issue is. One trick is to ask your friend if anyone in their network is looking to mentor others. That person will be your witch doctor mentor.

All you will need to start getting more interviews is the 3-Step Witch Doctor Solution.
Step 1 - Find your mentor
Your friend can be your mentor but it is even better if you can find a leader within your industry that can be your advocate. Ask a close friend to introduce you to someone in their network who is interested in mentoring. For example, if you are a web developer you can ask a friend if there is anyone on their Web Development team who is looking to become a mentor.
Leaders love to mentor others as it helps them with their professional growth. If the stars align it will be a win-win situation.
Step 2 - The meeting
Once you have found someone who can mentor you, book a meeting with that person using a booking link (You can use Calendly or Google meeting links).
Before the meeting research the mentor's background, prepare questions, and set clear goals for what you hope to achieve from the mentorship.
During the meeting, you need to mention your accomplishments and discuss any projects you are working on. Aim to impress and book future sessions!
You may want to avoid mentioning that they are your witch doctor 🤣. Some secrets are best kept to yourself.
Step 3 - Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Once you have a mentor they will become your advocate and help you get more interviews. But what if you don’t do well in interviews?
One of my favourite quotes is "To be outstanding get comfortable with being uncomfortable’ -Alrik Koudenburg
Sounds counterintuitive right? It works! The more you do something the more your mind adjusts to the situation.
Ask your witch doctor mentor for help with interviews and what you could do better. If you impress them they will organically keep an eye out for opportunities within their network.
BONUS Interview Tip
I have spoken to countless job seekers who say ‘no’ to employers when asked about whether they can or can’t do certain tasks.
They get caught up with what is the best answer to give and miss the mark. If you can’t do something focus on what you can do and do THAT well. Don’t lose that mental battle or that opportunity is lost!
Your mentor will refer you to others to network with. In a way, I feel like I am mentoring all of you reading this now. All of you deserve networking opportunities. Keep reading👇🏼

Take a look at the individuals below and see if you have any mutual connections. Then ask the mutual connection for an introduction! You will have already started step two, as mentioned in the previous section.
