He was active in the Greater Boston Retarded Children's Association, the Boston Temple Mishkin Tefila, Combined Jewish Philanthropies and the National UJA. Within the toy industry, He received many recognitions within these organizations. In 1969 he was honored as the Chairman of the Red and White Ball held each year for the benefit of the Greater Boston Association for Retarded Children. Throughout the years he had donated toys from Child World to the Association to help rehabilitate mentally retarded children in the Boston area. In 1978 he was presented with the Brandeis distinguished community service award.

This honor by Brandeis University was not only for his distinguished achievements as a leader in the toy industry but for his significant contribution to the well being of the community and his specific support for Brandeis University. The proceeds establish the Sidney Schneider Scholarship Fund at Brandeis. A friend was quoted as saying to me "The Brandeis Dinner was the special event of each toy fair in those years and the choice of Sid as an honoree was an extremely popuar one uniquely Sid's popularity and Sid's friendship with so many people in the industry was clearly a personal reflection of the warm relationships he enjoyed. One of the greatest highlights of his life, he would often say, was when he had the honor of introducing Menachim Begin to members of a National UJA Mission in Israel. After retiring to Florida in 1981, he lived in Miami where he was President of Westview Country Club and later moved to Boca Raton where he was President of Saint Andrews Country Club and a member of High Ridge Country Club.
